Ahh, balance.
That ever elusive buzzword for the yoga inclined.
Let’s think about yoga for a moment. We put our body through motions and positions, many of them not easy or natural, and then seek to find balance while holding those forms.
I know I struggle with it.
When I check in with myself I can, with compassion, understand that there are just some forms that my body might not be able to hold at the moment…
and that’s ok.
If I look around and others are holding position and finding balance, that is their journey.
That is their body.
Those are their abilities.
That does not mean that we excuse ourselves from challenging our mind, body, and soul to learn new forms. That is an admirable goal. Yet we all start from different places and we can honor that by not comparing our abilities to strike a certain form with balance.
I mean, I don’t think you’re going to find me doing the “Destroyer of the Universe pose”(Bhairavasana) any time soon…AND FOR GOOD REASON OH MY GOD!
Do you find yourself in positions in your life that seem uneasy and unnatural, and then attempt to find balance?
Perhaps that space is not for you.
Maybe that place is not meant to be.
That person might not be your person.
Balance is important, but I would contend that there is some homework to do (and mindfulness can help!) in order to make sure that you are not attempting balance where there might be none for you in that moment.
Mindfulness is a discipline and a practice.
It requires a consistent energetic output in order to give you the best life possible.
If that sounds hard trust me, at the beginning, it is.
Then it becomes easier, just like those yoga poses (even the hard ones!)
That is why it is nice to have a coach/cheerleader in your corner to celebrate the wins and hug out the challenges.
Looking forward to helping some of you with your mental yoga, because god knows I’m not going to be assisting you with actual yoga any time soon!
With peace and love,
Michael
